The Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center
As a National Parkinson Foundation Center of Excellence, the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center at Barrow
Neurological Institute provides diagnostic and treatment services, research, and education for those
whose lives have been touched by Parkinson’s disease. In addition to clinical services, the Center
conducts extensive research in new medical and surgical treatments for Parkinson’s disease and
related disorders. Over 20 support groups throughout Arizona bring together people with Parkinson’s
disease, their families and caregivers to share information and offer mutual support. Educational
conferences for patients, families and health care professionals are held throughout the year.
Activities of the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center are funded by donations from individuals, foundations,
and corporations. The growth and success of the Center over the past year is due in part to the
Celebrity Fight Night Foundation. As a result of Celebrity Fight Night, we were able to launch the
Ali Care program. “Ali Care” reflects the commitment of Muhammad Ali to all people, regardless of
ability to pay, to have access to treatment, medications, and therapies needed to manage Parkinson’s
disease. Through Ali Care, we were able to help those patients who do not have insurance or financial
resources to pay for medications or physician visits.
