Cancer is a far reaching disease that requires a global response. According to the World Health Organization, more than 18 million people around the world are diagnosed with cancer every year.
To that end, Gateway is accelerating practice-changing discoveries in cancer care by harnessing the unrelenting passion of the research community and empowering patients to triumph over their disease. All guided by a clear vision: To shape a world in which a cancer diagnosis is no longer feared.
Since its inception in 1991, Gateway for Cancer Research has been harnessing the passion and drive of a global community of brilliant physicians, benevolent philanthropists and brave patients to advance transformational, early stage clinical trials for all types of cancer. This includes rare cancers for which funding is scarce as well as some of the most prevalent cancers affecting men, women and children today. Gateway exclusively funds Phase I and II research trials, which often mark the first-in-human studies of promising new cancer drugs, devices and therapies. As such, they represent a critical first step in evaluating new cancer treatments that help patients live longer and feel better while working to end cancer as we know it.
To date, Gateway has invested more than $95 million to advance nearly 200 cancer clinical trials. Conducted at esteemed institutions around the world, these trials have delivered HOPE and HEALING to nearly 10,000 patients. In the process, they have altered the standard of care at some of the most trusted hospitals and health care institutions and given way to new federally approved treatments and therapies that improve quality of life and save lives. In the process, Gateway has never forgotten that its work is ALWAYS and ONLY be about the patient.
Gateway is a nonprofit 501c(3) organization guided by a vision to shape a world in which a cancer diagnosis is no longer feared. Thanks to generous underwriting, 100% of every dollar Gateway receives directly funds early phase cancer research.
Gateway invests in research that has the potential to forever change the face of cancer care through advancements in treatments and therapies that make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients. Thanks to the generosity of valued donors, we have achieved many significant breakthroughs in the quest to shape a world in which a cancer diagnosis is no longer feared.
